Talking

Caroline has been pretty solid on about three words since around 12 - 15 months - Mama, Dada and Doggie.  She didn't really use them correctly until around 15 months.  Since then, we've added quite a few to our vocabulary - we're now up to about 10 - 15 words (and they're mostly used in the correct context).  Mama, Dada and Doggie are still favorites (Doggie is actually the absolute most favorite - if Waylon only knew).  We've also got Hi, Bye, yes, no (really more like "nein" so we think she's German), oh!, uh-oh, thank you (more like tak ou), shoes, ta-da!, and baby.  She also knows "quack, quack" for what a duck says and "moo" for what a cow says - these are in the past few days.

However, there are other times when I'm not really sure that we're making much progress (see below exchange)...

We were reading through a book recently, I pointed to a duck and said, "duck."
Caroline said "duck."
So excited, went to the next page and pointed to a frog and said, "frog."
Caroline said "duck."
Next page, pointed to a turtle and said "turtle."
Caroline said "duck."
Went back to the page with the duck and said "duck."
Caroline said "doggie."
Oh well...and "duck" hasn't really stuck around so not sure we can count it as an official word.

In reality, most of our exchanges go a little like this: https://vimeo.com/71693149
